# Zoom Meeting Integration

> How Alex joins and records Zoom meetings

<Note>
Zoom is an **optional** part of **[Coordinator](/workflows/coordinator)**, Alex's interview-scheduling product. Coordinator runs on a connected calendar ([Google](/integrations/google-calendar) or [Microsoft](/integrations/microsoft)) and defaults to a Google Meet or Teams link; connect Zoom only if you'd rather Alex create and record Zoom meetings instead.
</Note>

## Overview

Alex uses a meeting bot to join Zoom calls and record meetings. When a meeting is scheduled with Alex, the bot joins as a participant to capture the conversation for later review and processing.

## How It Works

* **Bot Joins** - When a Zoom meeting starts, Alex's bot joins as a participant. The bot name is configurable but defaults to "Alex."
* **Recording** - The bot records the audio and video of the meeting in real time.
* **Processing** - After the meeting ends, the recording is processed and made available in your Alex dashboard for review, scoring, and sharing.

## Using the Integration

Once the Zoom integration is connected, here's how to use it day-to-day:

* **Create a Zoom link** - When recording an external meeting, click **Create Zoom Link** to generate a meeting link directly from Alex. You can also paste an existing Zoom link.
* **Schedule or join now** - Choose to have the bot join immediately or schedule it for a later time. If your calendar is connected, Alex will also send calendar invites and automatically detect reschedules.
* **During the meeting** - The bot joins as a participant and records the conversation. No manual action is needed from the host or participants.
* **After the meeting** - The recording and transcript are available in your Alex dashboard under the corresponding interview session. You can review, share, and score the interview from there.
* **Bot behavior** - The bot joins as a signed-in Zoom user, so it bypasses waiting rooms automatically. It does not interact during the call — it only observes and records.

## Installation

Each user connects their own Zoom account individually:

1. **Navigate to Settings** - In the Alex app, go to **Settings** > **Profile** > **Connected Accounts**
2. **Connect Zoom** - Click **Connect** next to Zoom and sign in with your Zoom account to authorize Alex

This is a per-user OAuth setup — each user connects their own Zoom account. Once connected, you can create Zoom meeting links directly from Alex and have Alex's bot join as a participant. The bot joins automatically as a signed-in user, so it doesn't need to be admitted from a waiting room.

## Uninstallation & Revoking Access

### Disconnect From Alex

To disconnect your Zoom account from Alex:

* In the Alex app, go to **Settings** > **Profile** > **Connected Accounts**
* Click **Disconnect** next to Zoom

When you disconnect, Alex automatically revokes its access with Zoom. This means:

* Your personal OAuth connection between Alex and Zoom is removed. Other users in your company are not affected.
* Alex will no longer be able to create or join Zoom meetings on your behalf.
* No new meeting data will be collected or processed for your account.
* All stored Zoom credentials (tokens, Zoom user info) for your account are deleted from Alex's systems.
* Any existing recordings and data will be retained according to your organization's data retention policy. Contact [support@alex.com](mailto:support@alex.com) if you'd like to request deletion of previously collected data.

### Revoke Access From Zoom

You can also remove Alex directly from your Zoom account:

* Go to the [Zoom App Marketplace](https://marketplace.zoom.us)
* Navigate to **Manage** > **Installed Apps**
* Find **Alex** and click **Remove**

This revokes Alex's access from the Zoom side. After removing, we recommend also clicking **Disconnect** in Alex's settings to ensure credentials are fully cleared on both sides.

## Data Handling & Privacy

Alex takes data privacy seriously. Here's how we handle your Zoom meeting data:

* **Recording Storage** - Meeting recordings are securely stored and encrypted at rest
* **Data Retention** - Recordings are retained according to your organization's configured retention policy
* **Access Control** - Only authorized users within your organization can access meeting recordings
* **Compliance** - Alex is SOC 2 Type II certified and compliant with GDPR requirements

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Solution |
| ------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Bot not joining meeting | Ensure the meeting link is valid and the meeting has started. Check if your Zoom admin has restrictions on bots. |
| Poor audio/video quality | Alex's bot requires stable internet. Quality issues are typically on the participant's end. |
