# Multilingual

Conducting interviews in multiple languages allows your team to engage with a broader talent pool and provides a more comfortable, inclusive experience for diverse candidates. Alex can speak 30+ languages!

### How multilingual interviews work

By default, Alex conducts interviews in English. However, when you select a non-English voice for a specific job, you unlock the ability to conduct multilingual interviews through the "Allow English Passthrough" setting.

* **When enabled:** Alex starts the interview in the language that is in the Interview Guide, but can seamlessly switch between the chosen non-English language and English if the candidate requests it.
* **When disabled:** The interview will remain strictly in the selected non-English language for the entire duration.

### Dependencies

The multilingual toggle is dependent on your voice selection. You must select a non-English voice and language for the interview before the passthrough setting becomes available to toggle.

### How to configure multilingual settings

To enable Alex to understand and converse in multiple languages for a job:

1. Navigate to your Job's **Settings**.
2. Under **Interview Voice & Language**, select a non-English voice from the dropdown menu.
3. Once a non-English voice is chosen, the **Allow English Passthrough** setting will become active.
4. Toggle the switch **On** to allow the candidate to switch between the selected language and English during the interview.
5. Save your settings to apply the new language preferences.

<Note>
  By default, if multilingual is enabled, Alex can only speak and understand two languages at a time: English and a non-English language. Reach out to support if you need more than two languages supported at a time.
